AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS
MAINTENANCE OF FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT

The building industry is heavily regulated these days and if you are an owner or occupier of a building you must ensure you have taken every precaution to maintain and adequately protect your building from potential fire hazards.

The liability of negligence could fall upon you for a fire or the safety of the public. AS1851 is applicable to all new and existing buildings alike, though, due to the newly revised Australian Standards – 2005 not being called upon by the BCA (yet to be recognised in June 2006) and is not legislation for the majority of the states in Australia, it is our recommendation that you seek legal advice from a lawyer or a Fire Engineer on whether to adopt the new standards for your stated purpose.
